Aesthetic Upgrades: Gloss Black Details for a Clean, Modern Look
The visual transformation began with one of the most noticeable areas: the front end.
DTE TV removed the factory grilles, fog light bezels, and textured moldings, then sanded, primed, and painted everything gloss black. It was a labor-intensive process, particularly because textured plastic surfaces require heavy manual prep to ensure paint adhesion. The creator recommended professional refinishing for users who prefer a shortcut, highlighting TMG Vans as a reliable service provider.
Fog Light Installation
A new fog light kit sourced from AliExpress added both practicality and style. The wiring was integrated cleanly into the fuse box, allowing the fog lights to operate with ignition, act as daytime running lights, and remain on for 30 seconds after shutoff.
Side Moldings & Rear Lights
The side moldings were removed, cleaned, and repainted gloss black before being secured with 3M red-backed tape.
The rear taillights received a subtle smoked finish using lacquer mixed with black paint—producing a clean, OEM-plus look without over-darkening.
Roof Rail Covers
Roof rail covers from Julian Green, a trusted supplier in the Caddy community, were painted and mounted with bolts and double-sided tape, completing the exterior black-out theme.
Suspension Upgrade: MaXpeedingRods Coilovers for Better Ride & Handling
One of the biggest transformations came from installing a MaXpeedingRods budget coilover kit.
Despite being an affordable option, the user noted several positive outcomes:
- Noticeably improved comfort compared to stock
- Better composure on uneven roads
- A lower, more aggressive stance without compromising drivability
Installation Notes
The installation wasn’t without challenges.
A seized captive nut required cutting with an air saw, and strut alignment took some teamwork. But once fitted, the coilovers performed better than expected—offering a mix of practicality, comfort, and improved handling.
Results: A Clean, Cohesive Build
The final outcome is a sharply updated VW Caddy Maxi featuring unified gloss black accents, functional fog lights, smoked taillights, improved ride quality from MaXpeedingRods suspension and tasteful finishing touches across the exterior.
As DTE TV concluded, the van now drives smoother, looks sharper, and feels more refined overall—a testament to how well-chosen budget mods can deliver impressive results.
