ECUs (also called Engine Control Unit)is the “brain” of a car that controls all the functioning of the engine. It serves several functions which include regulating and maintaining the amount of fuel and air in the fuel injection part and helps in increasing the horsepower of the engine. So ECUs play an important part in a car’s performance.
According to different modification methods, we can divide ECUs into three categories, which are stand-alone ECUs, ECUs remapping and piggy-back ECUs. Today we will introduce the most commonly used ones, the piggy-back ECUs from MaXpeedingRods to you. Different from the other two types, the piggy-back ECUs is an external computer that makes no physical changes to the engine but only modifies and adjusts the pressure sensor signal and then transmits it to the original ECUs of the engine. It’s easy to install, which means you can plug it in and remove it as you wish.
So let’s see how it is installed.
Step 1: Turn off the ignition switch, lock the car and wait for three minutes.
Step 2: Open the engine compartment cover.
Step 3: Open the engine hood.
Step 4: Find sensor A, take out the original plug and insert the corresponding external computer plug A.
Step 5: Find sensor B, take out the original plug and insert the corresponding external computer plug B.
Step 6: Connect the external computer host to the plug of the harness set and find a suitable place to receive the external computer host.
Step 7: Fix the computer and harness with ribbons or 3M pastes.
