5 Ways to Improve Daily Car’s Handling

Car handling is the way that your car performs on the road, as well as how it handles curves and swerving. How can I build a super high handling performance daily driver E36 without swapping the engine? Well, you may replace many parts like anti-roll bar, brakes, spring, etc. It won’t be easy, you cannot finish it in just a weekend, but it’ll be fun and rewarding! Here are 5 ways to improve it.

  • Firmer anti-roll bar bushes

Replace the reinforced anti-roll bar sleeves and strengthen the stabilizer link as soon as possible. These two are utilized to control the working angle of the anti-roll bar, reduce road noise, and provide for a smoother ride. I highly recommend this replacement as a must-have package cause it’s affordable and fairly simple. Actually, much firmer polyurethane bushings are also popular with keen drivers as they can have handling benefits.

  • Larger wheel and tire

Larger-scale tires with a bigger tire aspect ratio make the cornering slower to a certain extent. The contact patch becomes wider to provide more lateral grip. However, I believe that wide tires look better from an aesthetic standpoint. On the other hand, our speedometer and odometer will both read high. The wheel gap will widen, the apparent ride height will rise, and the actual ground clearance will drop. I don’t think this’s the best choice.

  • Upgrade anti-roll bars

The third step is to replace the thicker anti-roll bar. An anti-roll bar is a device that essentially controls body roll when it turns, i.e., when the car wants to lean when cornering at high speeds. If the previous two steps fail to deliver the handling performance we desire, then we will directly replace a set of more robust anti-roll bars. To put it simply, if your car understeers, choose a set of brand harder anti-roll bars and install a stiffer rear anti-roll bar. A firmer front anti-bar is recommended if the vehicle oversteers.

  • Short spring

Much like brakes and steering, springs need to be understood to avoid disappointment. If the springs are too soft, the load put on the tire through the suspension will drop too much, it would take the damper a long time to return to its initial point, which would be terrible for the next bump or turn. When we went over small dips and bumps in the road, the vehicle looked rocking side to side. Short springs can improve handling and make the ride stiffer if the existing ones supplied by the original factory are too soft. The stiffer results in the springs staying more in sync when cornering, resulting in a car that rides more flatter and handles better.

  •  Coilover

The last trick is to replace the coilover. You may look at me with that kind of contempt. Well, I admit that the ultimate weapon will definitely not escape the cliché.

But what exactly are coilover and, more importantly, do they improve handling performance enough to justify their considerable expense?

You know, we MaXpeedingRods offer effective and high-performance coilover for BMW E36. Made from 6061 aluminum with T6, guaranteed the feature of light but strong. Twin-Tube Shock design is used to increase efficiency and keep shock temps low.
